Splashback Tiles

Both your kitchen and bathroom walls are susceptible to water damage and staining, particularly around the sink, which is why many people choose to install splashback tiles. They don’t only make a practical solution for these spaces, though. They’re also a great way of adding extra interest, elevating the design of a space, and producing pops of colour or patterns.

Why Are Tiles Good for Splashbacks?

One of the main reasons why so many people are choosing tiles as a material for their splashbacks is because they’re super durable, and while durability varies between materials, most tiles are resistant to water, heat, and staining. When you factor in the addition of a primer and sealant during the installation process, their durability only increases.

Another reason why tiles most people choose splashback tiles is because they are really easy to maintain and keep clean, which is particularly useful in areas that see a lot of splashing and general wear and tear.

Splashback tiles are often a more cost-effective choice than other materials too, and offer a similar level of durability and performance to metal or glass sheets at a fraction of the cost.

What Colour Splashback Tiles Work Best?

There is a plethora of different colours and patterns to choose from when looking at splashback tiles, and the ones that work best will ultimately depend on what you’re trying to achieve in your overall design.

For instance, if you’re aiming to create a light, open space, go for splashback tiles in a neutral tone, such as white, cream, or beige. Or, if you’re thinking of creating a focal point, choose tiles in bold colours that will pop against cooler, more neutral tones.

You can also create an industrial feel with splashback tiles by choosing metallic finishes and natural tones, such as bronze and copper or terracotta and light brown.

Whatever your desired colour scheme, one thing to remember is to look at how much natural light the space gets. Placing dark tiles in a room that doesn’t get much natural light throughout the day can make it feel much smaller, so in this instance, it would be better to choose a lighter colour to help brighten up the area.

How Do You Keep Splashback Tiles Clean?

As with most things, prevention is better than cure when it comes to bathroom or kitchen splashback tiles, and using a sealant when installing them will dramatically reduce the chance of them developing stains and watermarks. Of course, you’ll also need to clean them, and this can be done by wiping them daily with a clean cloth and a tile-cleaning spray.

To increase your splashback tiles’ lifetime, it’s also a good idea to deep clean them every so often. Luckily, this isn’t very difficult, and a good wash with a mixture of warm water and bleach-free detergent, followed by drying with a clean microfibre cloth, is enough to keep them looking great for years to come.
